I am an older person here. It was mandatory to take another language where I lived in the US when I grew up. I started taking French in the 4th grade. In the 6th grade, we took Spanish. I was shocked to discover that languages are not taught any longer. It broadens your education so much.

I love this point! I studied German in college for 5 years and although I can’t say I use it often, I learned a lot during the process and it’s helped me pick up Spanish faster.
